The Map of Dreams is now a reality!

Team WildEast • Jan 29, 2021
It’s official, the Map of Dreams has launched. It’s thanks to all of you incredible pledgees who have put your name on the map that this has been made a possibility. We’d also like to thank Global MapAid, who have worked with us closely to create a visual representation of all the fantastic rewilding projects around the region.

Partners with various and broad areas of expertise who have also helped propel the Map into the digital stratosphere include RSK Group, Natural England, UCL, University of Essex, RSPB, Natural Cambridgeshire and the Broads Authority – we appreciate all your support!

So, without further ado, how do all of you WildEasters use the map?

Using the Map of Dreams

Firstly, head to the wildeast.co.uk/we-pledge page and scroll down to find the Map of Dreams. You know you’ve landed in the right place when you see the iconic WildEast lynx emblem laying across the East of England!

Like with Google Maps, you can zoom in and out by using the + and – buttons in the top left. Click to drag with your mouse to move the map. Or if you’re on a smartphone use your fingers by pinching inwards to zoom in and outwards to zoom out as well as dragging your finger across the screen to move the map.

Using the key in the top right hand of the screen, you can filter what you’d like to see from garden pledges to existing nature and conservation areas. Just check the box to show those items on the map and uncheck to turn them off!

If you zoom in, each item is clickable and will give further insight into each and every pledge on the map as well as places that are yet to pledge.

Want to feature on the Map of Dreams?

As nature’s voice has dwindled over the years through habitat destruction and species decline, it is down to us to shout for it. The Map of Dreams now provides a platform for our collective voices, highlighting the actions people are taking to benefit nature.

This effort needs each and every one of us to make a difference, so please pledge to get your name on the map by clicking here if you’re a garden or business owner or a member of a church or clicking here if you are a farm or estate owner.

Broad bushy hedges, or WildEdges , can become substantial ecological assets whilst increasing crop productivity for the farmer. WildEast estimate that 5% (62,500 hectares) of the 20% of wildlife habitat required, could come from WildEdges. Working together, WildEast and Land App will equip farmers with the toolkit that they need to transform their farmland hedges into rich wildlife habitat. 80% of the WildEast footprint is agricultural land. WildEast and LandApp aim to enable landowners to broaden hedges to increase space for wildlife. If you're having difficulty viewing the below Wild Story, please head here.
